# What does Debit note mean in logistics?

Short answer

A document issued by a supplier to increase the value billed on an earlier invoice, for example for extra charges discovered after invoicing.

Under Section 34 of the CGST Act, 2017 a supplier issues a debit note when the taxable value or tax on an invoice was lower than it should have been. In freight, debit notes commonly cover detention, extra delivery points or diesel escalation. Ask our desk how this applies to your consignment.
