FTL Transport Across India

Full Truckload Transport on India’s Largest Private Fleet

Dedicated 32ft SXL and MXL, containerised and open-body vehicles from a 2,700+ owned fleet — placed from our own capacity, not the spot market, across 320+ locations in 27 states.

Full truckload (FTL) transport dedicates an entire vehicle to a single consignment, moving it point to point with no intermediate handling. Safe & Secure Logistics runs FTL across India on a 2,700+ owned vehicle fleet — 32ft SXL and MXL, containerised, open-body, reefer and DG tanker — placed from our own capacity across 320+ locations in 27 states. Because there is no broker layer between your indent and our truck, placement is faster, pricing is direct, and one company remains accountable from loading to proof of delivery.

What FTL transport is, and how Safe & Secure runs it

In an FTL movement you contract the whole vehicle. Your cargo is loaded once at origin, sealed, and unloaded once at destination — no transhipment hubs, no co-loading with other shippers’ freight, no handling in between. That makes FTL the default mode for plant-to-depot distribution, inter-factory transfers, port evacuation and any consignment where transit time, cargo integrity or load security matters.

Most Indian FTL is brokered: the company that takes your booking hires a market vehicle it has never operated. We work differently. Safe & Secure has run owned assets since 1951, and today operates 2,700+ owned vehicles — one of the reasons the group remains debt-free after 75 years. When you place an indent with us, the vehicle that arrives is ours: our driver, our maintenance record, our GPS unit, our liability.

32ft SXL and MXL

The workhorses of Indian trunk-route FTL. Single-axle for standard payloads, multi-axle where higher tonnage on the same footprint improves per-unit economics. Suited to FMCG, consumer durables and packaged industrial goods.

Containerised and closed-body

Fully enclosed, sealable vehicles for pilferage-sensitive and weather-sensitive cargo. Backed by 700+ owned 40ft containers for movements that continue by rail or sea through our container and ocean freight service.

Open body and specialised

Open-body flatbeds for machinery, steel, pipes and construction material, plus DG-certified tankers for dangerous goods. Over-dimensional consignments route through our project cargo and ODC team.

Temperature-controlled FTL is a discipline of its own. We operate India’s largest private reefer fleet, covered in detail under cold chain logistics.

When FTL beats PTL — and when it does not

The honest answer is that neither mode is universally cheaper. The right choice depends on load size, urgency and handling tolerance.

Factor Full Truckload (FTL) Part Truckload (PTL)
Load size Fills most of a vehicle’s capacity Smaller consignments sharing space
Handling Loaded once, unloaded once Handled at each hub in the network
Transit time Direct point to point; fastest by road Longer, dependent on hub schedules
Pricing basis Per vehicle per lane Per kilogram or per unit of freight
Best for Full loads, urgent or fragile cargo, fixed delivery windows Regular small dispatches, multi-destination distribution

If your consignment fills most of a vehicle, FTL is almost always cheaper per tonne and faster door to door. If you ship smaller lots frequently, our part truckload service will usually serve you better — and we will tell you so at the enquiry stage rather than sell you the wrong mode.

Who uses our FTL service

FMCG and consumer goods

Plant-to-depot and depot-to-depot distribution on repeatable lanes, where placement reliability and fixed transit days protect downstream fill rates. India’s leading FMCG enterprises run primary distribution on our fleet.

Pharma and cold chain

Temperature-controlled FTL on reefer vehicles with continuous monitoring, for cargo where a single excursion writes off the load. Served by India’s largest private reefer fleet.

Industrial and manufacturing

Raw material inbound, inter-plant transfers, project site deliveries and port evacuation — open-body, closed-body and tanker capacity under one operator, with in-house customs expertise where movements cross borders.

How FTL pricing works

FTL is priced per vehicle per lane. The per-kilogram cost falls out of how well you fill the truck, which is why comparing FTL and PTL quotes per kilogram misleads. The factors that actually set the rate:

Lane and distance

Kilometres are the base, but corridor matters as much: a lane with dependable return loads prices lower per kilometre than one where the vehicle returns empty. Toll structure and route condition also feed in.

Vehicle type and size

A 32ft MXL carries more than an SXL at a higher absolute rate but often a lower per-tonne cost. Reefer and DG capacity price above standard closed-body for the equipment and compliance they carry.

Time and season

Diesel prices, loading and unloading time allowances (detention beyond the free window is chargeable), and seasonal demand peaks — harvest, festival build-ups, quarter-ends — all move lane rates.

Because we price from our own fleet’s operating cost rather than a spot-market margin stack, our contracted lane rates hold steadier through demand peaks. For an immediate figure, use the freight rate calculator; for annual-contract pricing on repeat lanes, speak to our team.

Coverage: 27 states, 320+ locations

Our FTL network operates across 27 states through 320+ locations, supported by 70+ warehouses — including cold storage — that serve as staging, relay and cross-dock points. Trunk corridors connect the major manufacturing clusters and consumption centres; port lanes feed our maritime operations; and global corridors extend movements beyond road through rail, ocean and air. Check pickup and delivery for your exact pincodes with the serviceability checker.

Why Safe & Secure for FTL

No broker layer

2,700+ owned vehicles means the truck we commit is a truck we operate. No spot-market scramble at placement time, no third party diluting accountability between your dock and the delivery point.

75 years, debt-free

Founded in 1951, family-owned and professionally run, with Rs 1,354 Cr (US$160M+) in group consolidated revenue in FY26 and no debt. Your carrier will be here for the length of your contract and well beyond.

Full-stack capability

Reefer, DG tanker, 700+ owned 40ft containers, 70+ warehouses and in-house maritime and customs expertise — so an FTL lane can extend into cold chain, multimodal or international movement without changing providers.

Owned assets also mean owned data: GPS on every vehicle, documented maintenance, and driver records we control. Visibility and reliability are properties of the fleet, not promises layered on top of someone else’s.

From enquiry to POD: how a movement runs

  1. Enquiry and lane assessment. Share origin, destination, cargo type and volume — by phone, WhatsApp or the rate calculator. We confirm the right vehicle type and mode, including recommending PTL if that genuinely suits you better.
  2. Quotation. A per-vehicle lane rate with detention terms, free-time windows and transit days stated upfront. No hidden reconciliation at month-end.
  3. Indent and placement. You confirm; we place the vehicle from our own fleet within the committed window, with driver and vehicle details shared in advance.
  4. Loading and documentation. Supervised loading, LR issuance, seal verification, and statutory paperwork — e-way bill support included.
  5. In-transit visibility. GPS tracking from gate-out to gate-in, with exception alerts on route deviation or delay rather than silence until something goes wrong.
  6. Delivery and POD. Unloading at destination, documented proof of delivery returned to you, and structured MIS reporting for contracted clients covering placement compliance, transit performance and POD closure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between FTL and PTL, and which should I choose?

In FTL (full truckload), the entire vehicle is dedicated to your consignment — it moves point to point without intermediate handling. In PTL (part truckload), your freight shares vehicle space and passes through hubs. Choose FTL when your load exceeds roughly 60-70% of a vehicle’s capacity, when transit time is critical, or when the cargo cannot tolerate handling. For smaller, flexible shipments, our part truckload service is usually more economical.

What truck types does Safe & Secure operate for FTL?

Our owned fleet of 2,700+ vehicles covers 32ft single-axle (SXL) and multi-axle (MXL) containers, open-body trucks for weather-tolerant cargo, temperature-controlled reefers — India’s largest private reefer fleet — and DG-certified tankers for dangerous goods. Because the vehicles are owned rather than brokered, we control placement, driver discipline and maintenance directly, which shows in placement reliability and transit consistency.

How is FTL pricing calculated?

FTL is priced per vehicle per lane, not per kilogram. The main factors are lane distance, vehicle type and size, diesel prices, toll costs, return-load probability on that corridor, loading and unloading time allowances, and seasonal demand. Lanes with strong two-way freight flow price lower per kilometre than one-way lanes. Our freight rate calculator gives an instant estimate for your origin-destination pair and vehicle type.

Which routes and locations does your FTL network cover?

We operate across 27 states through a network of 320+ locations, supported by 70+ warehouses that double as staging and relay points. Coverage spans all major manufacturing and consumption corridors — north-south trunk routes, port connectivity lanes, and east and northeast India. Use our serviceability checker to confirm pickup and delivery against your specific pincodes before you plan a dispatch.

How quickly can you place a vehicle after I confirm an indent?

Placement time depends on the lane and vehicle type, but an owned fleet of 2,700+ vehicles positioned across 320+ locations means we place from our own capacity rather than searching the spot market. On established corridors, standard 32ft placements are typically same-day or next-morning. For dedicated or contracted lanes we commit placement windows in the service agreement, with performance reported against them.

Do you provide vehicle tracking and proof of delivery?

Yes. Owned vehicles carry GPS as standard, so you receive live location visibility from placement to delivery rather than periodic phone-call updates. Every trip closes with a documented proof of delivery, and for contracted clients we provide structured MIS reporting covering placement compliance, transit times and POD status. Tracking and documentation are handled in-house, not passed through intermediaries.

Can you handle FTL for temperature-sensitive or hazardous cargo?

Both. We run India’s largest private reefer fleet for frozen and chilled FTL movements — see our cold chain logistics service for the full temperature-controlled offering. For hazardous cargo, we operate DG-certified tankers and trained drivers under statutory compliance. These specialised movements follow the same owned-fleet model: our vehicles, our drivers, our accountability, with no brokered layer in between.
