How it works, in detail

Air freight suits urgent, high-value or perishable cargo where days matter more than the rate. Freight is charged on chargeable weight, the higher of actual and volumetric weight (the IATA convention is 6,000 cm³ per kg).

We book the space, collect your cargo, hand it over at the airport and deliver it at the other end, so urgent freight has one owner from door to door.

How is air-freight chargeable weight calculated?

Airlines charge the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight; under the IATA convention, volumetric kg = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6,000. Try the volumetric weight calculator.

When is air better than road?

When delay costs more than freight: urgent spares, line stoppages, high-value or short-life goods. For most B2B freight in India, road is far cheaper.

Can SSL move dangerous goods by air?

Only where the airline accepts them under IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations with proper declarations. Tell our desk the UN number first.

Does SSL do next-day air delivery?

It depends on flights and cut-offs on your route. Our desk will give you an honest timeline before you book.
