What does Bonded warehouse mean in logistics?
Short answer
A warehouse where imported goods are stored without payment of customs duty until they are cleared for domestic use or re-exported. The duty liability is secured by a bond rather than paid upfront.
Bonded warehouses are licensed under the Customs Act, 1962. Goods enter on a warehousing bill of entry and leave on an ex-bond bill of entry; the Manufacture and Other Operations in Warehouse Regulations, 2019 also allow manufacturing inside bond. Ask our desk how this applies to your consignment.
