What does Axle load mean in logistics?
Short answer
The maximum weight a single axle or axle group may legally carry on the road. Together with the number and type of axles, it sets a truck’s legal gross vehicle weight and therefore its payload.
Limits are set under the Motor Vehicles Act and CMVR. A Ministry of Road Transport and Highways notification of July 2018 raised the permissible axle weights for goods vehicles, increasing legal payloads of many existing trucks. Ask our desk how this applies to your consignment.
