What does Payload mean in logistics?
Short answer
The weight of cargo a vehicle can legally carry: gross vehicle weight minus the vehicle’s unladen weight.
In India the legal payload follows from the registered laden weight on the vehicle’s registration. Loading beyond it is overloading, penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act, whatever the truck can physically hold. Ask our desk how this applies to your consignment.
