What does Spot rate vs contract rate mean in logistics?
Short answer
A spot rate is a one-off price for a single load at current market conditions; a contract rate is agreed in advance for a period and lane, usually with volume commitments.
Indian spot rates swing with season, festivals, harvest periods, diesel prices and lane imbalance. Contract rates give stability but carriers may place trucks less reliably when spot rates rise above contract rates. Ask our desk how this applies to your consignment.
